Money is both a medium of exchange and a store of value. The medium of exchange is there on the blockchain for everyone to see bitcoin being sent back and forth. The store of value, while many think it is more speculative than real, is undeniable.
While we deal with rapid inflation with fiat currencies, bitcoin had deflationary properties built into it, with halving and a fixed cap of 21 million coins.
One thing I think people misunderstand is that a bitcoin wallet does not hold any currency. It holds a private key, and all the currency is on the public blockchain.
